Fun Facts About Orthodontics
FUN
FACTS ABOUT
ORTHODONTICS…
It was not until 1915 when the first bracket was invented by a man named Edward Angle (Angle…imagine that!). He also started the first ever school for Orthodontic specialists in 1901.
NASA originally developed wires activated by body heat for use in the space program. Dr. Rosenblatt now uses this same technology in his braces to move your teeth!
Invisalign aligners are the clear alternative to metal braces. They are barely noticeable so Dr. Rosenblatt can make your teeth straighter as if by magic.
After completing university and dental
school, Dr. Rosenblatt continued his studies in orthodontics for an additional
3 years to focus on growth, development and tooth movement.
Braces are really high tech and react to temperature. If your
braces are ever feeling uncomfortably tight, have a glass of ice water and the
pressure will be relieved. On the other hand, hot drinks actually cause the
wire to tighten up a little.
Braces cannot become “locked” together when two people wearing them kiss!
At SmileWorks, our brackets are so small and compact that you’d have to try really hard to get them stuck together. That’s not to say somebody might not be able to make it happen if they had enough time on their hands.

Braces don’t set off metal detectors...unless you’re Wolverine! The materials used in making braces are a lightweight, non-magnetic alloy, so though you have to remove your shoes, belt, and coat, security normally won’t give your braces a second glance and they won't set off any bells or beeps.
You’re not any more likely to get hit by lightning wearing braces (hooray!), and you won’t pick up radio stations in your mouth (bummer)!
